"A Funky Place To Live With Kids"
A stunning little village!!! Consider all the features it has - several cafes, restaurants, quaint stores & happy tourists etc. It is a special feeling walking with my kids to the local bakery to get freshly baked German rye bread, bumping into locals on the way for a quick chat, but also being exposed to other cultures - happy tourists enjoying a stroll & Gelato!
Yes, Main Street is a bustling road with a festive air. But traffic is always moving, occasionally slowly down for someone to ease into a parking. There is plenty of parking around Main Street - locals never have a problem finding parking as they know exactly where these overlooked parking spots are.
The surrounding countryside is stunning with dramatic rolling hills dotted with alpacas, cows, horses & sheep. Wild rabbits, koalas and possums are often seen by the locals in their gardens. Stunning Autumn foliage & Spring blossoms in abundance.
Local produce an absolute delight - wines, cheese, cherries, apples, jams, strawberries & plenty more on one's doorstep!

A fantastic place to live. Lived here forever and love it. Great to bring up the kids in a safe and secure environment. House prices are going CRAZY! They will only keep going up as Hahndorf is not being made any bigger.

"Great place to bring up a family"
Lovely, green, leafy area in the Hills. It has great community spirit and feels safe. Commuting into Adelade is easy by car. Yes, the main street is busy on weekends, but away from that, it is very quiet.

"Very popular tourist town in the Adelaide Hills"
Well known for the German Arms hotel. Has a distinct German fell about the town.
"A tourist hotspot and with good reason."
This quaint little German heritage town in the hills is great for a visit but it gets so busy on the weekend. With good reason too. It is one of the best spots to get out of the car and walk along the main street looking into all of the little shops and stopping for a nice meal at one of the many restaurants and pubs.
There are plenty of good houses on good sized blocks around but they have a higher price than some of the surrounding areas. But there is good reason for it; the country in the area is simply stunning.
This is high on my list of places I want to live because it isn't too far from the city, the country is beautiful and the town is lovely.
The pubs are good for a local meal, but there are plenty of restaurants as well. Wineries close by, it is an ideal spot for Hills living without the long commute.

"A busy tourist town in the Adelaide Hills"
Hahndorf is a town of German heritage, located in the Adelaide Hills and an easy 20 minute drive (just over 20 kilometres) from Adelaide.
The town is a tourist hotspot, where the Main Street bustles with tourists on any day of the week. Traffic and parking on the Main Street can be a challenge. With some old German-style pubs like the German Arms and some really touristy shops selling handicrafts, postcards and boiled lollies, it is by no means a quiet country town.
There are a number of really interesting wineries in the region offering fantastic local produce and top-notch wines, such as The Lane, Bird in Hand and Nepenthe, all just a short drive from the main town.
The homes in and around the town are built on comfortable sized blocks with large gardens. There are a number of country properties and farms in the outer regions. The town offers a number of shops, supermarkets, schools and other facilities.
Many Hahndorf locals commute to Adelaide for work, whether it is via the fast-paced South-Eastern freeway or by public transport with the bus lines that link the Hills to the CBD.
Overall Hahndorf has a very busy feel about it, with the main street driven by tourist dollars and a daily hustle and bustle. The surrounding region has a lot to offer, so perhaps avoid the town centre if you’re looking for a quiet life in the Hills.

Hi Luxe09,
not sure why you have rated Hahndorf 2/5 stars when you have such positive comments. along with other ratings I would think Hahndof is unique and a very desireable location to live or visit.
